Brawler is dedicated to publishing the best poetry and fiction available, with a strong emphasis on the Midwest. We're not going to define what makes a story "Midwestern," so you don't have to either. If you're not from around here, don't worry. If you like what we publish, and think your work would be a good fit, we are more than happy to read it, and hopefully consider it for publication.
No one is getting paid, yet. Sorry.
All submissions should be sent through our submittable site below.
This is our favorite category to read. Keep it short, real short. Nothing more that 1,250 words, and nothing previously published.
We only accept previously unpublished poetry, and we love the formal stuff. Call us old-fashioned, but we believe that poetry is more attractive in a tailored suit.
Our fiction guidelines are very lax. Nothing previously published, and please keep it under 3,000 words. We get a lot of stories about barns, and getting drunk. Although this may be reflective of Midwestern life, we believe that there are other ways to get at the heart of life here, in flyover country. That being said, if you have a great story about getting drunk in a barn, please, send it along.
